Within the Government of Alberta, Steve was seconded as Executive Lead to the COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force and the Rapid Testing Task Force. Prior to joining Alberta’s public service, he served as an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces for more than 35 years, rising to the rank of Brigadier-General. Along with tours and commands overseas in Afghanistan, the Former-Yugoslavia, Haiti, El Salvador, and Germany, he held numerous high-level positions in Canada. Most recently, he commanded the 3rd Canadian Division, where he led an organization of approximately 15,000 military and civilian personnel deployed across the four western provinces and the two territories.
Prior to that assignment, he served in Washington D.C. as Director-General of the Inter-American Defense Board, where he advised the Organization of American States on defence and security issues in the Americas, with particular attention to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in the Caribbean and Latin American.
Born in Quebec, Steve spent his formative years in Latin America. He holds a baccalaureate in military arts and sciences, and masters degrees in defence studies and in public administration, all from the Royal Military College of Canada. He is trilingual (English, French and Spanish).
